Matt Welsch

Director of Coaching

Matt is a dedicated and experienced soccer coach with over 15 years of experience and a strong background in player development, program coordination, and team leadership.

During his 15 years of coaching experience, Matt has led players from youth to collegiate levels and has consistently fostered competitive, organized, and positive team environments. He joined HPSA in the Fall of 2021 working with both the 2013 and 2014 girls teams before starting his current role as coach of both of the 2013 boys teams.

This season he accepted a role to work on the North Texas Soccer Association Olympic Development coaching staff and took the 2010 boys to the Far West ODP Championships guiding them to a second place finish in their group.

Matt has also served as a Head Coach for the High Plains Drifters from 2009 to 2015, working with age groups ranging from U-7 to U-19. During this time, he managed training sessions, game strategies, and administrative duties, including state and tournament documentation.

As a Student Assistant Coach at West Texas A&M University from 2013 to 2015, Matt played a vital role in team logistics, recruiting, and NCAA compliance, while also supporting in-game and practice coaching.

Matt also held the role of Adult League Commissioner for the Amarillo Soccer Association from 2010 to 2012, where he developed a 7v7 summer league format that is still in use today.

He has completed a U.S. Soccer D and C License Courses and has NSCAA Level I & II Goalkeeping Certifications.
