Welcome to Highland Park Soccer Academy’s Open Tryout Event!  We are so glad you are here.  Tonight’s tryout event kicks off an evaluation period, and players are now invited to attend team practices.  At the tryout event and subsequent team practices, players are evaluated as they practice with players their own age.   Player attendance, participation, sportsmanship will set expectations for skill development required, which team they make and playing time. After the evaluation period is complete, the first round of Academy-aged players (born between 2019-2016) will be notified by the end of May.  Select players (born in 2015 or later) will be notified on July 1.

Coaching Overview

Coaching for your child’s team will not be determined until we know how many players in the age group are joining and have evaluated each player’s skill set over the coming weeks and months.  Age groups with enough players for multiple teams will have teams named Gold, Navy and White.  League play begins in August, and teams and coaching will be firmly established in July.  Teams are established on an age-pure basis.

Attendance

Attendance is a critical evaluation criterion and a major item for families to consider before joining HPSA.  Teams require full participation, so if families already know that their schedule cannot accommodate this level of commitment, we ask you to hold off joining until it does.   Our teams want to be competitive, and we all work hard to ensure that they are.   Player attendance to all practices and games is something we cannot stress enough.   

Year-Round Training

We practice twice a week and play in league games or tournaments year-round, meaning we practice January-December and participate in games each calendar season except summer.   While we are closed when HPISD is closed, some leagues continue to hold games during holiday vacations.   It is important to ask coaches and team managers about the team’s calendar year of events to know whether your team will possibly have games during Winter and Spring Breaks.

Extra Training is Available

HPSA offers and encourages participation in Futsal (indoor soccer) and Friday Skills Training to current and non-HPSA players who are interested in extra training to improve their skills.  More information is available on our website (https://hpsocceracademy.com/) under the “Training” tab.

Annual Practice Schedule

HPSA practices follow a regular schedule that resembles the following table.  However, final schedules vary based on coach and field availability.  Always refer to your team’s current schedule for specific practice dates, times and locations.

Player Kit

After accepting the offer to join HPSA, completing registration forms, and paying the annual dues, HPSA will send your player’s information to Not Just Soccer (NJS) to inform them of your team and jersey number.  Parents may then order online or go to NJS to purchase the kit.  All items in the HPSA player kit listed below are required.    While ordering online is available, for first-time purchases, we strongly recommend going into NJS to try on the uniforms and warmups because, we have learned, players may need different sizes for tops and bottoms, especially with the game warmups.

HPSA Player Kit (all are required):

• White (home) and Navy (away) jersey with patch and number. 
• White (Select teams only) and Navy game shorts.
• White and navy socks.
• Navy practice jersey with “Scots Soccer”.  We recommend at least 2.
• Navy practice shorts.  We recommend at least 2.
• Warmups for cooler weather.
• Backpack embroidered with something recognizable to the player.  Please consider adding something to the backpack to help the player quickly distinguish it from others’ when leaving the field.

Also required, but not included in the order links:

• Shin guards
• Cleats
• Black and white tights and long-sleeved under shirt for cold weather.
• Water bottle
• Ball
  Sizes:  K to 2nd grade – Size 3, 3rd to 6th grade – Size 4, 7th to 12th grade – Size 5

Invitation Email

Congratulations Player!

This email is your official notification that you have been selected to join the HPSA _____ 2025-26 team.  We are excited to have you on the team and know that having your participation will help next season be one of our best yet! 

To secure your place on the team, you have 5 days to complete the registration process, which includes issuing a dues payment and completing online forms.  Once we receive your completed registration, it takes 5 days to register players with the league.  Players are not eligible to play in league games until they are fully registered with HPSA and have paid their dues or set up a payment plan.

Practice and Game Uniforms and Kit

 Dues Obligation

Once your club registration is complete, your payment is non-refundable, and your annual dues commitments are non-negotiable.  A decision to leave HPSA at any time does not relieve players of their annual team dues commitments.  Dues payments are not only a commitment that players make to HPSA, but a financial obligation HPSA makes to coaches, staff, facilities and leagues.

• You can pay by logging into the new HPSA App, which can be used on any mobile, laptop or desktop device. 
• Payment options in the HPSA App include credit card, digital wallet, and ACH.

• First-time users will need to set up an account.  Only one login is possible per player.

2. Zelle

• Please include the player’s name and team in the memo section.

 Registration: Forms and Payment Details

Player dues payments and registration documents are found in the HPSA App (see instructions above in payment options).  The HPSA App website will guide you through the registration steps, which include:

• Signature forms for leagues.  Some forms require multiple signatures, so please continue signing forms until you can submit.
• Birth certificate.  To verify age, leagues require birth certificates for all player registrations.
• Head shot.  To verify player ID, referees compare player head shots and jersey numbers to the printed roster for the team prior to each game.  Head shots should only include shoulders and head.
• Dues Payment.

Registration Forms

The following forms will be available in the HPSA App for signatures.  Some forms require more than one signature, so you will need to continue to sign the forms until a pop-up “Save” button appears.

Birth Certificate

A photo of the player’s birth certificate must be uploaded in the HPSA App for leagues to verify player age.

Head Shot

A player head shot is required and will be printed on the roster for officials to check players in on the sideline before every game.  The head shot should be like a yearbook photo.  It will be less than an inch tall, so it should only include from the shoulders up and be very recognizable for a referee to distinguish that the player is who the roster claims him/her to be.
